A grocery list that worked with Siri grew into a household tool for capturing tasks, sharing responsibility, and keeping everyday plans moving. The challenge was knowing how much to add—and what to leave out.
01 / Discover
The original problem was small and familiar: John wanted to add groceries to a shared list by voice. Google Home and Amazon Alexa did not fit the tools his household was using, so everyone kept returning to a shared note on their iPhones.
He built a simple web app and connected it to Apple Shortcuts. Now a request to Siri could add something to the grocery list.
That working shortcut revealed a bigger opportunity. A shared grocery list was also the beginning of a framework for household tasks.
How can a busy household capture what needs doing and stay on the same page?
02 / Define
John added customizable categories and subcategories, then a household model: some lists could be shared with other members, while others stayed private.
Shopping and kids’ activities could be coordinated together. Within shopping, groceries, Costco, Amazon, hardware, and other categories could have their own place. Assignments made responsibility visible.
The product’s boundary mattered as much as its features. Punch List is for everyday household coordination. That focus guides the experience as new ideas are considered.
Make it easy to capture a task, know who owns it, and see what comes next.

The hardest part / Keeping it simple
The hardest problem was product design: responding to different household needs without making the app difficult to use.
Feature requests can pull a to-do app in many directions. John kept the focus on ordinary household coordination and used user feedback to refine how capturing, sharing, assigning, and planning tasks fit together.
The aim was for more capability to mean less everyday effort. The work was in making those capabilities feel like one coherent flow.
Technology & implementation
The stack connects AI-assisted task capture with household organization, email, calendar services, and familiar ways to sign in.
Claude Code supports development, and OpenAI tools support design. Email-to-task also connects incoming messages and attachments with the AI-assisted task workflow.
04 / Launch
Punch List brings together the ways household tasks arrive: a spoken reminder, a photograph, a forwarded email, or something added directly to a list.
Phone and computer notifications, email recaps, and calendar connections help keep the plan accessible beyond the app. People choose which categories to share and which to keep private.
John builds and operates Punch List as one of PharettaLabs’ own products.

User feedback helped shape the product as it grew beyond its first grocery list. The recurring question was whether a change helped a household stay organized without adding more work.
That gives continued development a practical filter: does this make an everyday task easier to capture, share, plan, or finish?
The intended outcome is clearer responsibility and fewer things slipping through the cracks. This story does not claim measured time savings or household outcomes.
Start with a small frustration. Follow the useful idea. Keep the product focused on the people it serves.
